NOTARY POWERS
A Notary is a public official whose main powers in California include administering oaths and attesting to signatures. Notary Public is a state-wide appointment, which means that notaries can notarize documents throughout the entire state in which they are commissioned.
NOTARIZING A SIGNED DOCUMENT
Notaries can perform an “acknowledgement” on a document that has already been signed. The document can be executed before the person brings it for notarization. In an acknowledgment, the signer must personally appear before the notary and acknowledge that he/she executed the document.
ELECTRONIC NOTARY SERVICES
Now available is an ENS, Electronic Notary Seal, developed by the National Notary Association, MIT, and Microsoft. This software allows notaries to keep an electronic journal, add an electronic notary seal to send notarized documents via the internet, and utilize electronic loan documents.
